Drop in Visit
We require all drop in (daily) visitors to have a Drop In Waiver on file. You will be required to complete one on your visit to the pool or you can download it and bring it with you.
Supervision of children
Supervision of children
Safety in and around the water is vital. It is important that children get the appropriate level of supervision when they visit the pool. It is the parent/caregiver’s responsibility to keep their children safe.
• Children under five years old must be within arm’s reach and under constant supervision by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or older in the pool at all times.
• Children between the ages of 5 and 7 (inclusive) must be actively supervised by a responsible caregiver aged 16 years or older, who is to be within the pool area at all times and able to provide immediate assistance.
• Children aged 8 to 11 years (inclusive) must have a responsible caregiver 16 years or older on site unless they are in a supervised program, such as swimming lessons. If they are swimming before or after the program, their caregivers must be onsite.
Maximum adult to child ratios
One adult to two children under 5 years old
One adult to one child under 5 and two 5 – 7-year-olds
One adult to four 5 – 7-year-olds.
One adult to six 8 – 11-year-olds.
Children still in diapers are required to wear swimming diapers. These are available for purchase from the pool front desk.
Lifeguards reserve the right to require children to undertake a swim test prior to using the diving board or rope swing.
Active supervision means always watching the child and being able to provide immediate help. The parent/caregiver must be close enough to:
- see the child
- be seen by the child
- hear the child
- be heard by the child
Pool Rules of Use
Bob Korn Memorial Swimming Pool is a public facility intended for the use of City of Cordova residents and visitors. The pool mis a welcoming and safe place. Please take the time to read over a few simple rules to help things run smoothly and make sure everyone enjoys all our pool has to offer. Participants of the pool are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that most people would find reasonable and that does not infringe on the enjoyment of others.
Your Membership
• Remember your membership card. Swiping your membership card is required and makes checking-in fast and easy.
• Day users are required to pay the appropriate admission fee.
• The minimum age for entry to the pool unsupervised is 12 years.
Your Belongings
• It’s up to you to keep your personal belongings safe – we encourage you to leave your gear in the lockers provided, using your own lock, during your visit. Lockers are for day use only and will be cleaned out every night.
• The City of Cordova is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Your Wellbeing
• Your safety when using our pool is important to us. Be considerate and respectful to other users and staff – it helps make our pool a safer, more enjoyable place for everyone.
• In the interest of public health, if you or your child has had diarrhea or vomiting within the last two (2) weeks, or have open sores or wounds, please do not enter the water.
• Always follow the directions of our lifeguards and staff and any rules, warnings, and instructions displayed on any safety signs and notices.
• There may be occasions where there are NO lifeguards on duty. In this situation only patrons 18+ are allowed in the pool and swimming is at their own risk.
• All swimmers are to shower with soap and water before entering the pool.
• To ensure safety and hygiene is maintained swimmers must wear appropriate swimwear that is clean and does not impair their ability to swim.
• Changing clothes, including diapers, on deck is prohibited. Changing tables are available in the changing rooms for your convenience.
• No street shoes on the pool deck.
• Do not sit or hang onto lane lines.
• Only US Coastguard approved personal flotation devices are permitted.
• Always check the depth of water before entering the pool. Look for hazards such as deeper water, lane ropes, diving boards and other swimmers.
• No flips or backwards dives from the edge of the pool.
• No running, jumping, pushing or rough play.
• Food, gum and glass are prohibited poolside and in the changing rooms.
• Please do not photograph, film, or otherwise record other members or staff without their consent, and the prior consent of the Director of Parks and Recreation. Use of phones in changing facilities is strictly prohibited.
• Our pool is smoke, vape, alcohol and drug-free. Anyone deemed to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will not be allowed entry.
• The diving blocks are for competition use only. No flips or jumping from the blocks. The blocks can only be used during swim team, Cordova School District and/or Parks and Recreation swim lessons.
• We also expect our customers to behave in a safe and responsible manner to all staff and customers, and to treat the facility with care and respect.
• There are specific rules for use of Diving Board and Rope Swing. Please make yourself familiar with them if you intend to use these.
• Please report any health and safety issues in the first instance to the nearest staff member or call the pool on (907) 424-7200 during business hours.
Your Rights
• If you have any concerns or complaints about service, a staff member, or our facility, please speak to the front desk and we’ll put you in touch with the appropriate manager. We may ask you to put your complaint in writing.
Our Rights
• Our rules are for the safety and wellbeing of all our users, and our staff – which we take very seriously. Anyone who fails to comply with the rules will receive a verbal warning and/or removal from the pool. Continued abuse of the rules may result in termination of membership.
• At times we may have to or choose to close parts or all of the pool for repairs, general maintenance, refurbishment, health and safety or emergencies.
Code of Conduct
All users of the pool are expected to always exhibit appropriate behavior while participating, spectating, or attending any program, event, service and/or facility provided by the City of Cordova Parks & Recreation.
This includes programs, events, services, or facilities that may or may not require an admission fee, spectating at athletic events, or attending special events.
The following guidelines are designed to provide safe and enjoyable facilities for all users.
Users shall:
• Treat others and the facility with courtesy and respect.
• Comply with any directions from facility staff and follow any other rules that they deem necessary and appropriate to provide patrons with a safe and welcoming environment.
• Refrain from abusive or foul language.
• Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other users, or facility staff.
• and refrain from damaging equipment, supplies, and facilities.
You must not carry out any offensive, threatening, inappropriate, dangerous, or illegal activities on City property, and you must comply with City health and safety requirements, including those directed to your own health and safety. Our decision as to what is offensive, threatening, inappropriate or dangerous activity will be final and binding. We may immediately suspend your membership and exclude you from all City Public Facilities for a period of time which we in our discretion consider reasonable.

• The diving board cannot be used unless a Lifeguard is on Duty.
• The diving board can only be opened under the condition that no one is swimming in the lanes beneath the board.
• Look before diving or jumping to make sure the diving area is clear.
• Only one person allowed on the diving board at a time.
• No cartwheels, handstands, flips from the diving board. Always dive away from the diving board.
• Only one bounce is allowed on the diving board.
• No lifejackets, personal floatation devices, eyewear, eye protection (googles), flippers or snorkels, when diving.
Rope Swing
• The rope swing cannot be used unless a Lifeguard is on Duty.
• The rope swing can only be opened under the condition that no one is swimming in the lanes beneath the board.
• Look before swinging to make sure the area is clear.
• Only one person allowed on the rope swing at a time.
• Once you swing out on the rope swing let go!
• No flips from the rope swing. Users must land feet first into the pool.
• No lifejackets, personal floatation devices, eyewear, eye protection (googles), flippers or snorkels, when diving.
Emergency Evacuation
When a continuous alarm sounds, or if instructed to do so by staff, please proceed to the nearest exit immediately, or otherwise as directed by staff or emergency personnel. You will not be permitted to re-enter until clearance has been given.
Programs and Activities
We are excited to announce the re-introduction of Swim Lessons.
Cordova Parks & Recreation is now using the Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum for all lessons. At this time we offer Preschool and Adult learn to swim lessons only.

Birthday Party rentals are only available on Saturday. The is a maximum of 2 hours per party and capacity is limited. All birthday parties are subject to staff availability and approval by City of Cordova.

Lifeguard Training
This course is designed to provide lifeguard candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep patrons of aquatic facilities safe in and around the water. This is an entry-level course that teaches to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide immediate care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, sudden illnesses and injuries advanced medical care arrives. Completion of the class will lead to the American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate including CPR/AED and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer, . Certification is good for 2 years.
Participants must pass the pre-requisite skills test, complete the online portion before the start of the in-person class, attend all listed class dates, pass the written and hands on skills test in order to receive certification.

Students must be a minimum of 15 years of age by the class completion date.
Prerequisite Skills Test
Prerequisites must be completed on the first day to continue the course:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
- Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance underwater.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
