The City of Cordova has updated its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) to better understand our risks from natural hazards and outline ways to reduce potential damage in the future.
A draft of the 2025 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan is now available for public review and comment. We invite all community members to review the draft plan and share feedback. You can comment on anything that may have been missed, add background information, or suggest ideas for hazard mitigation projects.
The plan addresses the following hazards:
- Avalanche
- Climate change
- Drought
- Earthquake
- Erosion
- Flood
- Hazardous material event
- Landslide
- Severe weather
- Technological or cyber threat
- Tsunami
- Volcano
- Wildfire
Once finalized and approved by FEMA, the City will become eligible to apply for certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance, including funding for mitigation projects identified in the plan.
Public comment period: October 27 – November 10, 2025
Planning Commission review: November 10, 2025 (the public is welcome to attend)
