Senior & Disabled Veteran Tax Exemption — Apply Sept 15 – Jan 15

The City of Cordova has prepared a new informational document regarding the Senior Citizen and Disabled Veteran Property Tax Exemption Program. While the qualifications for this program have not changed, we felt it was important to remind residents of several key components and provide clear guidance for participants.

The only new update is the addition of a small application fee and an application period between September 15th to January 15th.

Otherwise, please note the following important reminders:

· This is an annual exemption that depends on yearly factors and activity.

· Once applicants are approved, applicants do not need to reapply every year—but you do need to keep an eye on your qualifications annually.

· Applicants must notify the City of any changes that could affect eligibility, including (but not limited to):

    • Property usage
    • Property ownership
    • Permanent residency status
    • PFD eligibility

· Disabled Veterans must submit a VA letter of at least 50% disability annually if it is not recorded as a permanent disability by the VA

· The City can review your qualification status and request information at any time.

· The exemption is a program benefit—The exemption is not automatic or guaranteed—it depends on meeting the qualifications each year.

We value our seniors and disabled veterans. We are committed to fair and consistent administration of this program and to ensuring that no one takes advantage of its provisions. This helps us maintain integrity in the process so that every applicant is treated equally.

We encourage all residents to review the updated informational document. If you have any questions, the Clerk’s Office is available and happy to provide clarification—we want everyone to feel confident and informed about how the program works.

Thank you, City of Cordova – Clerk’s Office
